Abstract This article presents a summary of State labor legislation for the year 2001. In 2001, a number of States increased their minimum wage rates; others enacted child labor measures that govern employment in the entertainment industry and place limits on children selling products door-to-door; and others enacted new laws to ban employment discrimination based on genetic information. Other laws enacted were in the emerging areas of regulating employee monitoring in the workplace, allowing breaks for nursing mothers, providing benefits for domestic partners, and addressing workplace harassment and violence.
